He Informs
In the Bible, Jesus spoke in parables a lot of the time when he was preaching.
At first (like the disciples) I didn’t understand why He didn’t just say what He meant, however Jesus lived His life to fulfill prophesy.
In Matthew 13:34-35 it says:
34 Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. 35 So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:
“I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”[a]
At the end of the parable, He would say “15 Whoever has ears, let them hear.” Matthew 11:15.
I think that He said these things so that the true seekers of God would look deeper and understand the calling and true meaning. He was quite literally giving multiple examples of what to look for and how to stay encouraged and most of all, how to wait for our bridegroom to return.
My favorite parable is the one about the servants who were waiting for their master to return.
Luke 12:35-39 says
35 “Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning, 36 as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks. 37 The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat! 38 He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn.[d] But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready.
39 “Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would not permit his house to be broken into. 40 You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.”
It is a scary thought, but a necessary thought. We know that Jesus will return, we just don’t know when. I pray that I am found ready and I will be rewarded with eternal life.
It is easy to go through life not thinking about the end. Nobody wants to think about that. We tell ourselves that we have time, or that what we have currently going on in this life is more important than anything. The most important thing we can do is BE READY.
Put all of your trust in Him, and do your best to live and LOVE like He told us to. I have moments when I have a bad thought and I immediately feel convicted and repent. I am a sinner. I was born a sinner. My only hope is in Jesus Christ and the sacrifice He made for us. My hope doesn’t come from ANYTHING I’ve done in my life besides making the choice to seek Jesus.
If you get a chance, look into the MANY parables Jesus gave to the crowds, and take notes. Everything in the Bible is meant to show us how to live - (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth), and it is actually a very interesting read!
