Forgiveness

This past Sunday, there was a guest speaker at church who preached a sermon on forgiveness. Basically, we are supposed to rely on Jesus paying the ultimate price for everything we could possibly go through here on earth, because heaven and Jesus are our ultimate solutions.

She said that when you live in the moment of your pain, you can’t see the WAY in front of you.

Jesus…is the way, the truth and the life.

We get so focused on who hurt us and holding onto that hurt…that we lose sight of what’s important. No matter how we feel in the moment - or any moments thereafter -whenever we remember…we have to forgive them again.

That hit me right in the face…because as she preached, I’m having a difficult time in my marriage. I married a very stubborn person…but I have to remember that I am stubborn as well. I have to remember that I am not perfect, and that Jesus has forgiven me…so who am I to hold a grudge for something absolutely unimportant in the grand scheme of things?

Jesus died for us. He defeated death and conquered the grave. He sits at the right hand of God. He wants us to forgive so that we might be forgiven.

Matthew 6:14-15 says (and straight from the mouth of Jesus)

““If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

‭‭I don’t know about you, but I want to be forgiven!

It’s so hard…how do we not dwell on what happened? How do we just forget about it and go back to normal? What if it happens again??

Forgive them anyway.

Forgive again.

And again after that.

As I always say, I’m a work in progress. I’m learning as I go and praying for strength and guidance in the process.

I hope I’m making our Father proud.
